Pilot test bench for analysing electrolysis stacks using various electrolytes at Fraunhofer IWES.
Seawater and brackish water may in future serve as alternative water resources for hydrogen production. The challenge: Conventional electrolysers require high-purity water with elaborate pretreatment. In the SeaEly project, Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems IWES together with Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials IFAM investigates how suitable seawater and brackish water are for hydrogen production and what test infrastructure is required for this research.
